Financial Monitoring Service and State Committee on Work with Religious Organizations Collaborate to Enhance AML/CFT Measures in Religious Organizations

The Financial Monitoring Service (FMS) and the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations convened a strategic meeting to strengthen Anti-Money Laundering and Countering the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT) measures. The meeting focused on enhancing the efforts to combat the financing of terrorism and to address the legalization of criminally obtained property within religious communities.

 

The meeting highlighted the need for tailored risk assessments to address the unique characteristics of religious communities. State Committee for Work with Religious Institutions shared insights regarding control inspections conducted in religious communities to ensure AML/CFT compliance.

Both authorities noted the importance of creating rules and procedures to minimize the risks of abuse of religious communities.

During the meeting, the standardized financial reporting form to be submitted by religious communities was also discussed.

The meeting ended with discussing the steps to be taken in the direction of further strengthening of the continuous cooperation, as well as joint obligations to protect the integrity of the financial system in our country and religious communities from criminal risks.
